Resources for Non-Profits during “stay at home” period

For over 13 years, I have had the privilege of collaborating with the board and friends of the Nonprofit Development Center of Southern New Jersey.  Since immigrating to Atlantic County in 1999 from Binghamton, NY (where I went to college and raised my family), I have worked for non-profits in New Jersey: from fundraising spaghetti dinners in Penn’s Grove (Salem); to an annual HeartWalk at Parvin State Park (Cumberland);  to health fairs and community councils in Camden; and now, supporting the entire charitable sector in New Jersey.

I am proud to be on the staff of Center for Non-Profits, the only umbrella organization for all New Jersey 501(c)(3)s.  Since 1982, the Center has provided advocacy resources, training and information to strengthen non-profits and help them thrive. We assist non-profits in saving time and money, provide timely resources and training and promote and protect the non-profit community through advocacy and public education.

The Center has been pleased to see the impact made by the Nonprofit Development Center of Southern New Jersey since its inception in 2006 .  The two organizations have collaborated from the beginning.  NPDCSNJ offers technical assistance, training and recognition events specific to southern New Jersey providing focused regional networking and capacity building.  South Jersey organizations are informed through NPDCSNJ of the Center’s services, education, technical assistance, and policy activities.

The Center emphasizes the value that 501(c)(3)s provide day in and day out.  But during the current COVID-19 crisis, the Center’s statewide and national advocacy efforts for policies that foster a strong non-profit sector is critical work that benefits everyone!  Recently, our scope has included:

  • Posting and updating COVID19 resources and conducting “rapid response” surveys of the sector
  • Advocating tirelessly for inclusion of non-profits in COVID-19 relief initiatives
  • Census 2020 resources for non-profits to use to educate and motivate a full Census count for New Jersey, despite the limitation of the current crisis

A sometimes overlooked service the Center has to offer are the Recorded Webinars.  Recordings of previous webinars (usually 60-90 mins) are available for an organization’s staff, board and volunteers to view at their convenience, perfect for this time of limited movement and interaction.  Could you use:

  • Guidance on good practices for non-profit management?
  • Some tricks of the trade in marketing?
  • Insight into developing a more cohesive and committed board?
  • Clarification on how NJ and federal laws have changed for human resource practices?
  • Overview of trends and issues affecting NJ nonprofits like mine?
  • Stress management insights for staff and volunteers?

Center members never pay for webinars. Some are free to all, others are available for a modest fee (usually $20 – 40) to non-members.  Check the Center website to learn more about Center membership  and benefits offered.

Stay up to date on non-profit news for New Jersey including advocacy alerts, calls to action, learning and networking events by subscribing to the Center’s email list (we never share email addresses and you can unsubscribe at any time).

I wish I could convey how much I appreciate all the good work south Jersey non-profits and partners are accomplishing under harsh and adverse conditions, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes inspiring, always exhausting. Our communities’ survival depends on you in so many ways.  This is a time when there are so many heroes they can’t be counted.  Know that you are truly making a difference.
